Christmas Ornament Garland Supplies

All of the hardware for this project can be purchased at your local hardware store, or big box store.

The ornaments used in this garland were purchased from Hobby Lobby. But, you can grab these ornaments from any of the craft or decorating stores too!

PRO TIP:ย This is your project so do whatever you think is best for the ornament situation. However, my advice is to not go crazy on spending! These ornaments are going to be strung up, and we all know little hands are going to be banging this garland around…like a lot!

That is why I purchased the ornaments from Hobby Lobby! They were cheap, but pretty, and shatter proof! Trust me, the cheaper ornaments are pretty too!

Also, feel free to let your imagination run wild with this project! I went with a silver and blue color scheme, but I am already daydreaming about pops of chartreuse, and even a black and white theme.

This ornament garland is super forgiving, and an inexpensive christmas DIY project! Feel free to change it up as often as you like!

For those of you who prefer to shop online, I have created a list of all the supplies used in this Christmas ornament garland project.

How to make Christmas Ornament Garland

Now that you have all of your supplies ready, let’s get this garland started!

First you will need to measure your mantle, or the spot that you will be hanging your garland. Give yourself a few inches breathing room, as you will want your garland to swag, or droop, in the middle.

To give you an idea, my mantel is 62 inches long, so I made each garland approximately 36 inches long. I added about 5 extra inches to each garland to allow room for the swag.

First, you will need to thread your wire through a washer. Slip it through the washer, and wrap the wire so that it makes a knot.

Next, twist the wire so that there is a slight notch for the ornaments to ‘stop’. I allowed approximately two inches at each end for the ornaments to stop before hitting the washers.

.

Now, you will just thread the ornaments onto the wire. You can create a pretty pattern with your Christmas ornament garland, or keep it totally random.

Once, you have reached the end, attach another washer and twist the wire like you did in the beginning. Don’t forget the two inch notch.

Next, you will repeat the process again for your second ornament garland. When you are finished, it should look something like this.

Hang your Christmas ornament garland

Now, you are ready to hang your beautiful garland!

Go back to your fireplace mantel, and determine where you want to place your hooks.

I placed 2 of the washers on the very edges of the mantel. The other 2 washers were placed right in the middle of the mantel.

Remember, there needs to be room for the garland to meet in the middle.

Now, step back and admire your handiwork! Check out your epic level of Christmas decorating success!

You are amazing, and I definitely wanna hang with you in front of your fireplace sipping on some cocoa, and watching all the holiday movies!

    1. Hi! As you string the ornaments they will kind of twist and spin so that it looks like layers. But, it is really just stringing them on the single wire. I hope that helps. Thanks so much!

    1. I am so glad that your ornament garland turned out beautifully! And I completely agree about the no shedding part. No mess is always a winner in my book! Thank you so much for reading. XO, Amanda
