secrets to a keeping a clean home with bed made daily

1. Make your bed everyday.

This is one I always struggled with, because I just did not get the point. But, I reluctantly got on board with trying it for a week. Just to see what all the fuss was about.

And, let me tell you. It really does make a room look clean, and get your day started off right.

Listen, you’re a busy mom, and I know exactly what it is like to believe that making your bed every day is pointless. And, to be thinking there is no way your kids are going to do it.

Especially without a massive struggle in the morning, in which you are already need to be at school in 5 minutes. Don’t worry mama, I got you!

Here are a couple of hacks I use to make it super easy to get those beds made each day.

Get rid of the top sheet. First off, unless you somehow need a top sheet to sleep get rid of it. Ours always ended up scrunched at the foot of the bed anyway.

It makes it super easy for kids to make their beds too, because all they have to do is pull up a blanket.

Please, let go of all the pillows. Seriously, you don’t need 15 pillows on your bed. You know it. I know it. We all know it. Make your life easier, and strip it down to the basics.

2. Keep sink clean and clear each day.

Having your sink over flowing with dirty dishes can be really overwhelming. By eliminating the clutter in the sink, and washing dishes daily you are well on your way to mastering a clean home.

You can easily load up the dishwasher after dinner, or throughout the day. Run it at night. And then unload it in the morning while the kids are eating breakfast.

This is one of those cleaning secrets that can easily be done on autopilot.

3. Clean as you go.

This is the secret sauce to always having a clean home. By cleaning as you go you virtually eliminate any epic level dirt and grime build up. Which is what leads to overwhelm, and all day cleaning sessions. And ain’t nobody got time for that. Right?

Cleaning as you go throughout your day will make your life so much easier. And, it doesn’t really feel like cleaning when you do it either.

Here are a couple of cleaning tips:

While cooking, place any dishes in the dishwasher. Or, go ahead and wash and dry the dishes while you are waiting for the food to cook. You can also wipe down counters and appliances too. If you are feeling super sassy you can do a quick sweep of the floor as well.

After taking your shower, spray down the glass. You can quickly squeegee the glass in less than 2 minutes.

While the kids are in the tub you can do a quick clean up of the bathroom. Wipe down counters, faucets, and toilets. You could also do a quick swipe of the mirrors too.

4. Deal with paper ASAP.

Listen, paper clutter can take over your home in minutes. Think about the mail, and all the papers that come home from school each day.

By taking the time to toss it, recycle it, or file it each day you will virtually eliminate any paper clutter. Which is a huge pain point in most homes.

Another great tip is to enforce the ‘one-touch’ rule. Which means you can only touch paper once. It allows you to make a quick decision on what to do with that particular piece of paper. And, then you don’t have to think about it again.

5. Do a load of laundry each day.

You know that laundry pile that always seems to be mocking you? It quickly becomes a mountain of laundry terror, and you just do not have the energy to deal with it.

One of the secrets to a clean house is to do a load of laundry each day. Wanna know another secret? You do not have to separate your laundry. Nope. Just wash on the cold cycle and you are good to go.

By doing a load of laundry each day, you will never have to face a never ending laundry pile again. And, it is so much more manageable, as in it will actually get put away, when you do it each day.

6. Keep counters clean daily.

Let’s face it. A clean kitchen counter just feels better, and is one of the hallmarks of a clean home.

Clear the clutter, and wipe down your counters each day. You can easily do this while you are cooking, or after dinner.

7. Sticking to a cleaning routine.

Finding a cleaning routine that works for your busy family is another fantabulous secret to keeping a clean house. The key being finding a cleaning schedule that works for you, and not against you.

By creating a weekly cleaning schedule everyone will know exactly what needs to be done throughout the week to maintain a clean home. And, having a quick and easy daily cleaning schedule utilizes super simple tasks each day, and is the guts of what keeps your home always clean too.

8. 3 things rule.

You may notice that people who always seem to have a clean home don’t have a lot of clutter. And, everything is always in the right spot.

A super easy way to maintain this level of cleanliness and organization in your home is to enforce the 3 things rule. This means that anytime you, or anyone else, leaves a room they must pick up 3 things and place them where they belong.

This is one of the incredibly simple ways to get started decluttering. And, ensures that everything is always put back.

9. Put clothes away.

Another way to maintain cleanliness at home is to put clothes away at the end of each day. You can either rehang your clothes in the closets if they aren’t really dirty. Or, place them in the hamper or wash.

Personally, ours go straight in the washing machine. Because it makes things easier. Remember you don’t have to separate clothing if you wash on cold. 😉

10. 15 minute clean up

The 15 minute clean up is another highly strategic secret to keeping your home clean.

You simply have everyone do a quick 15 minute clean up session before settling in for the evening. This can be picking up toys off the floor, or clearing off a workspace.

My biggest tip is to divide and conquer. For instance, this may mean your kids clean up toys and the play area while you put a load of laundry away.

It goes by really quickly, and you will probably be surprised at how much can be done in 15 minutes. And, it is total game changer in keeping your home clean and tidy.

11. Everyone does their part.

Here is the deal with keeping your home clean. And possibly one of the toughest things to not only accept but also enforce.

Your family is a team, and everyone needs to do their part in maintaining a clean home. One of the single most important clean house tips is that every single person should be cleaning.

All of you live in the home, and all of you should be keeping it clean. It is not solely your responsibility.

When it comes to your children cleaning. You are teaching them how to be a neat and tidy person. That is a wonderful life lesson. Wouldn’t you agree?

Obviously, the chores and expectations will vary by age. But, everyone needs to help. Our youngest knows to put her dishes away, and helps me put laundry in the wash. Our oldest has recently started vacuuming and cleaning the bathrooms.

And, let me tell you. It is amazing, and freeing, and makes my mama heart smile.

Here is another really important detail:

Done is better than perfect!

No, every area of your home may not be cleaned in the way in which you would have done it. But, guess what? That is totally okay.

The fact of the matter is. It is done, and you didn’t have to do it. Which is a winner in my book every single time!
